Amazon FBA DDP Shipping: Labels, Appointments & Rejections

Vantage Forwarding
How to ship to Amazon FBA from China via DDP — FBA label rules, carrier appointments, and the rejection traps

Selling on Amazon adds a layer most importers never plan for: getting goods into an Amazon warehouse is a different sport from getting them to your door. DDP into FBA is popular because Amazon won’t act as importer of record — but the margin for error is small. Here’s how to avoid the rejections.

Why DDP is the default for FBA

Amazon will not be the importer of record or clear customs for you. So the goods must arrive already cleared and duty-paid — which is exactly what DDP provides. Your forwarder delivers cleared cartons to the FBA dock, and Amazon receives them as domestic stock. This is why “DDP to FBA” is the standard phrasing. (For the DDP/DDU trade-off, see DDP vs DDU.)

FBA label requirements

Amazon is strict about carton labels. Each box needs:

  • the FBA shipment label (from Seller Central) on every carton,
  • a scannable barcode (no smudges, no overlapping labels),
  • and correct box content data uploaded before arrival.

Mislabeled or unreadable cartons are a top rejection cause. Print on adhesive labels, not paper taped over — they peel.

Carrier appointments

Most FBAreceive centers require a delivery appointment. Your forwarder or carrier books a window; show up outside it and you may be turned away or charged a fee. Build the appointment into the transit plan — a shipment that arrives before its slot sits in a yard.

The rejection traps

Common reasons Amazon rejects or delays FBA inbound:

  • Label errors — missing, duplicated, or unscannable FBA labels.
  • Wrong address / dock — shipping to a closed or incorrect FC.
  • Mixed shipments — two FBA shipments in one container without separation.
  • Overweight/oversized cartons — exceeding Amazon’s carton limits.
  • Missing PO / ASN — advance info not uploaded in Seller Central.
  • Damaged packaging — cartons arriving crushed from poor LCL consolidation.

Each rejection means reshipping or reimbursement headaches. The checklist below prevents most.

Pre-ship checklist

Before your forwarder dispatches to FBA:

  • [ ] FBA shipment created in Seller Central; labels downloaded.
  • [ ] Every carton labeled and scannable; box data uploaded.
  • [ ] Destination FBA ID and address confirmed (correct FC).
  • [ ] Delivery appointment booked by carrier/forwarder.
  • [ ] Carton weight/size within Amazon limits.
  • [ ] Commercial invoice shows accurate value & origin (no under-declaration — fraud risk).
  • [ ] DDP confirmed: duty paid, clearance handled by forwarder.
  • [ ] Insurance covers the full value to the dock.

LCL vs FCL for FBA

If you’re sending a partial load, LCL keeps cash free — but insist cartons are palletized and separated so they survive consolidation. Past ~15 CBM, FCL is cheaper and lower-risk for a single FBA shipment. Either way, seal and label properly.

FAQ

Can Amazon clear customs for me?
No. That’s why DDP (or your own broker under DDU) is required — Amazon receives domestic, cleared goods only.

What if a carton is rejected?
Amazon may accept the rest and flag the problem carton; you’ll coordinate a removal or return with the forwarder. Prevention via the checklist is far cheaper.

Do I need a forwarder for FBA, or can I use a carrier?
A carrier gets it to the port; you’d still need clearance, trucking, and the appointment. Most importers use a forwarder to run the whole FBA chain under DDP.
