For a buyer comfortable with a forwarder’s dashboard, it is avoidable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alipay applies a 3% service fee on Taobao and Tmall orders paid with an international Visa, Mastercard or JCB card. Small orders are commonly exempt below a low value threshold, so read the checkout screen. Your own bank may add a foreign transaction fee on top, and both are charged before anything has shipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the part of the bill that nobody collects from you in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the United States, de minimis treatment for China-origin goods was suspended in May 2025, so duty applies regardless of declared value. The rate follows the HTS classification of what you bought rather than a flat percentage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the European Union, from 1 July 2026 a \u20ac3 customs duty applies per item by tariff heading on e-commerce parcels valued below \u20ac150 from non-EU sellers. A \u20ac2 handling fee per consignment is under discussion for later in 2026.
